BigtimeTeez Review: Hipster Zombie T-Shirt

bigtimeteez-header-logo

Hipster-Zombie-400x400There are two very popular crazes out there today, the hipster craze and the zombie craze. BigtimeTeez has decided to combine the two and give us the “Hipster Zombie” t-shirt.

The design of this funny t-shirt I would say is more appealing to the female customers, but is completely suited for the male population too. I love this design, I laughed as soon as I pulled it out of the box. It is witty and a fantastic way to combine two of the biggest fads gripping our nation’s youth. I love that the design is larger, it makes it more eye catching and a very large focal point. This funny t-shirt has quickly become one of my favorites from BigtimeTeez. The design lays flat on the shirt and does not bunch when it is being worn. The screen printing is flawless. There are no signs of cracking or peeling.

I absolutely love the way this t-shirt fits! Besides their great designs, the fit of the Hipster-Zombie-400x400 (1)funny t-shirts from BigtimeTeez has always been one of my favorite qualities. The material is light and breathable, so the “Hipster Zombie” t-shirt is great for any weather climate. This funny t-shirt is also preshrunk, and unlike other companies that make this promise, Bigtimeteez’ shirts really are preshrunk. No need to worry about throwing this shirt in the dryer and pulling out a t-shirt that will fit a 2-year-old. It does not lose its shape after washing and drying either. Nor does it stretch or lose shape during wear.

DSCF9168Not only is this funny t-shirt awesome, but it is also completely affordable. Starting at only $14.95, the “Hipster Zombie” t-shirt is a way better value than any similar t-shirt from the mall. If that is still too high for you, use discount code miss15 at checkout for 15% off your order. BigtimeTeez also offers free shipping on US orders of $50 or more.

Video Game Review: ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ (Xbox 360)

Action/Comedy/Horror/Role Playlollipop-chainsaw-xbox360-boxart

Rated M

Grasshopper Manufacture

June 12, 2012

Plot: Lollipop Chainsaw is the story of young, beautiful zombie-killer Juliet Starling, her sidekick disembodied-head boyfriend, and the entire Starling family of zombie killers as they team up to stop a colossal zombie outbreak. Leading the zombies are a group of zombie rock and roll lords who do battle with Juliet

I have been hearing a lot about ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ since its 2012 release, so I finally decided to break down and give it a try.

The first thing anyone notices about a product is the packaging.  The cover art for ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ is colorful and attractive.  It’s got an Anime look to it. The cover is appealing to both genders.

The controls during game play are simple to figure out.  While fighting the zombies, you use a grand total of three controls.  I like the simplicity of the controls, but the game itself is way to easy for my liking, I prefer more of a challenge.  Even when a massive horde of zombies approach, it is easy to quickly take them all out.

The level of humor in ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ is pretty high.  Every time Juliet kills a zombie, she says something witty.  The phrases that she says are kind of corny, but actually, pretty funny.

As a fan of horror films and video games, I like a little gore with anything involving zombies.  While there is some blood, with a mature rating, there could have been a little bit more.  My biggest complaint is that when she kills a zombie, rainbows and stars start flying.  I know this is an Anime style game and you are playing the role of a cheerleader, but there is a bit too much camp for my liking.

I’m not going to say that I hate this game, but it really is not my cup of tea.  If you are into Anime and zombies, this is a great game for you.  If you are looking for a gory zombie killing fest, this game is not for you.  ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ is great for beginners.  If you’re new to gaming or new to this style of game, this is a great option for you.

The critics have given ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ an average of 7.6 out of 10.  I am giving it a 6 out of 10.  I liked the cover art, the graphics and the overall story line of the game, but it was way too easy and campy for my taste.

‘The Living’ a zombie mini-series from Cineline Productions

TheLiving_Wallpaper

I was contacted recently by Aaron Champion, director and producer at Cineline Productions about their new zombie mini-series, ‘The Living’.  I have seen the first installment of the mini-series and I believe it shows a lot of promise.

TheLiving_06The concept for ‘The Living’ is original and suspenseful.  The opening episode took place mostly on an airplane and if you ask me, a zombie on an airplane is a pretty big problem and the biggest fear of many zombie apocalypse believers.  An airplane is a great place to have someone turn.  It is enclosed and invokes a lot of fear and panic.

Visual effects and their authenticity can really ensure the success of a great zombie project.  The effects in ‘The Living’ are incredible.  When the zombie on the plane claims his victim, everything down to the beating heart of the victim were spot on and visually stunning (in a grotesque, morbid kind of way).   TheLiving_03

Like most indie projects, ‘The Living’ needs some help funding the rest of the project via a Kickstarter campaign.  There are 23 days to go to help reach the $11,000 goal.

Book Review: Ground Zero by Nicholas Ryan

GroundZeroCoverSAWWhen I think zombie novels, I used to think Max Brooks, but there is a new name I will think of from now on, Nicholas Ryan. I was contacted a while back by Mr. Ryan to review his new zombie novelGround Zero‘ and I’m glad I accepted to do so.

Synopsis:

When the zombie apocalypse sweeps across the eastern states of America, Jack Cutter is the man least likely to last beyond the first few minutes. Dealing with the recent tragic deaths of his wife and child, Cutter is forced into a desperate struggle for survival – and for redemption. Everything Cutter came to expect from life is torn away and turned upside down so that all he has left is his instinct and a sense of fate that compels him on his journey.
The action is frantic and terrifying as Cutter slowly discovers the cost of staying alive is dealing with his guilt and accepting responsibility he can never be prepared for.
‘Ground Zero: A Zombie Apocalypse’ is a real story with real characters that readers will cheer on until the final shocking twist.

Many zombie novels that I have read have been severely lacking the proper descriptiveness to draw the reader into the horror they are trying to give them.  Nicholas Ryan’sGround Zero‘ is every bit as horrifying and descriptive as a Max Brooks novel.  The scenes he describes are terrifying and so vivid I almost feel like I am watching a George A. Romero film.  The way he depicts his characters and the scenarios that they are faced with, I could feel their fear and I felt as though I was watching all of these horrors unfold through the eyes of these terrified people.  He gave every character a back story, so you really get to know them and learn what makes them tick.  This is what makes any story worth reading.

The twists and turns that his main character, Jack Cutter, faces are fantastically thought out.  The changes he goes through and the things he comes to terms with are both heartbreaking and unsettling.

Ground Zero‘ is not a lengthy story, but packs all the punches of a Stephen King length novel.  None of the story feels rushed.  The natural flow of the novel from beginning to end is seamless and well thought out.  Through the time that I was reading it, I never thought “well this could be better” or “he really should have added something here“.  ‘Ground Zero‘ really is a work of art and has all of the makings of a real horror literary classic.

I could not recommend ‘Ground Zero‘ enough to anyone that enjoys a truly captivating horror story.  Even if you are not a fan of horror or zombie novels, I would still give it a read.  The story is so well written, it could draw in any reader, horror fan or not.

Interview with Author Nicholas Ryan

GroundZeroCoverI was recently contacted by author Nicholas Ryan about doing a review of his new zombie novel “Ground Zero“.  I conducted an interview with Mr. Ryan so that you can become better acquainted with him and his work.

Interview:

LBoH: Can you introduce yourself for those that haven’t read your previous works?

NR: Hi my name is Nicholas Ryan I have an extensive background in advertising and marketing and have spent several years working as a commercial artist. I am a veracious reader and have so far kept a lot of my creative writing restricted to other genres I have had several bestsellers on Amazon but my new book “Ground Zero” is my first foray into writing about the subject I love most – Zombies!

LBoH: How long have you been writing?

NR: Since I was a teenager. I won’t tell you how many years that is, but it’s a lot!

LBoH: What got you into horror writing?

NR: I have always been a huge fan of horror movies but my writing has always been for commercial reasons and it is only now that I can translate that fascination for zombie films into a zombie book. I think the advantage of being a zombie film fan is that I write visually – That means lots of description and hopefully lots of excitement and tension.

LBoH: Who are some of your influences?

NR: Stephen King, Wilbur Smith.

LBoH: You have best sellers on Amazon in other categories, other than your horror works, which was your favorite to do?

NR: I wrote an action adventure novel that I was very proud of. It went to number one in the Sea Adventure category, at one stage outselling Ernest Hemingway’s ‘Old Man and the Sea’. I wrote an action adventure novel that I was very proud of. It went to number one in the Sea Adventure category, at one stage outselling Ernest Hemingway’s ‘Old Man and the Sea’ and a Clive Cussler new release.

LBoH: How long have you been working on “Ground Zero”?

NR: The idea for the story has been on my mind for some time. When I sit down to write a novel the writing process itself usually only takes about 6 weeks, but behind the scenes the plot and research takes longer.

LBoH: Where did the concept for “Ground Zero” come from?

NR: I don’t know! On very rare occasions great ideas just come to me. This is one of those very rare occasions.

LBoH: Is “Ground Zero” going to be a part of a series or just a single novel?

NR: The readers will decide that question! I hate the idea of books ending as a cliff hanger. It’s a technique I have always refused to use. So “Ground Zero” will have its own ending, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be more story to tell. If the book is well received and readers genuinely want to know what happens to the characters after they have read the final page then I would certainly consider a follow up book.

LBoH: Will you ever write for another genre again, or will you stick mostly with horror/zombie type works?

NR: To be very honest, the success of the books I have written in other genres now affords me the luxury of being able to write about anything I want – and I want to write about Zombies.

LBoH: Do you have any other ideas, other than “Ground Zero”, that we can expect to see in print in the near future?

NR: A million!

LBoH: What are your goals for the next couple of years?

NR: To become established in the Zombie genre and to earn a reputation as an author who tells a rattling good yarn. If I can do that I would be very happy.

LBoH: Any advice for the other horror/zombie authors out there trying to get their material noticed?

NR: The thing I have noticed with the success of my other books in other genres is that marketing is never ending. But despite the social networking world we live in, no amount of marketing can make a bad book good. Ultimately every writer’s long term success needs to be built on a foundation of bloody good books!

Stay tuned for the review of Nicholas Ryan’s upcoming zombie novel “Ground Zero” in mid September. Be sure to like Nicholas’ official Facebook page for more news on “Ground Zero“.

BigtimeTeez Review: Keep Calm and Kill Zombies T-Shirt

BigtimeTeez Header Logo

Kill-Zombies-400x400I recently received from BigtimeTeez the Keep Calm and Kill Zombies t-shirt.  This funny t-shirt is one that I would highly recommend to any zombie movie fan or wannabe zombie hunter.

The design of this funny t-shirt is quite large and covers pretty much the entire front of the shirt.  It is a fun play Kill-Zombies-400x400 (1)on the “Keep Calm and Carry On” slogan.  At the top of the design, there is a red bio-hazard symbol with blood splatters and hand prints underneath of it.  Overlaying the hand prints and splatters in bold white lettering is the phrase “Keep Calm and Kill Zombies”.  The screen printing is flawless with no cracks or peeling edges.

The material of the Keep Calm and Kill Zombies t-shirt is very soft and breathable.  There is a good amount of stretch to the t-shirt and the screen printing.  The fit in this funny t-shirt is very true to the size chart.  It is offered in men’s, women’s and kids sizes.  Now available in tank tops, long-sleeve and zip-up hoodies.

Zombie with a Shotgun Review

dlswccop9uszetbgf41w

I recently watched a short called Zombie with a Shotgun it can be viewed online.  There are currently four episodes available and the average run time is 4-5 minutes.  The shorts were created and produced by Hilton Ariel Ruiz and co-produced by Kirk Goodall.

Zombie with a Shotgun stars Braeden Baade as the protective and tough Aaron who is not yet sure what his future holds and Lynnea Molone as Aaron’s innocent and vulnerable girlfriend, Rachel.  You also see one certain zombie a lot who is played by Sammy Mena.  The script was well written and the acting is very convincing.

The setting is very dark and fits well with the story.  It appears to be an old warehouse and fits perfectly with a story that chronicles a mans transformation into the undead.  The music, by David Bateman, makes the setting even better with it’s eery sound.

The makeup, done by Karen Michele, is very creative and convincing.  The makeup that Karen did on Braede Baade (Aaron) was fantastic.  With  each episode, Aaron’s makeup changes gradually, much like a person’s appearance would if they were turning into a zombie.  The makeup on the zombie (Sammy Mena) is definitely grotesque and ranks pretty high on the list of zombie makeups that I have seen in the past few months.

All in all I would say that Zombie with a Shotgun is a solid indie piece and has a lot of potential to become very successful.  I will definitely continue to watch the upcoming episodes.  To keep up to date on all Zombie with a shotgun, follow the official twitter page.
