Convention Updates: HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati March 20-22nd (2 days away)

header

We are now only 2 days out from HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati, and there are even more updates pouring in. More additions, cancellations and Norman Reedus photo op questions answered.

As mentioned in yesterday’s HHW update post, megastar of The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus is now SATURDAY ONLY. This brought forth questions from fans about the photo ops they have purchased, well this was said in the HHW group on Facebook:

NORMAN REEDUS PHOTO OPS:

OK gang, here’s what’s going on for all Norman Reedus photo ops at HorrorHound this weekend. All tickets will be honored on Saturday, If you have a Friday ticket and can’t make it on Saturday email us immediately at info@celebphotoops.com about a refund. Time is of the essence.

We will still be selling all Saturday photo ops for Norman on site, on a cash only basis. We want everyone to get their photo. We’ll shoot as long as there are people there to shoot.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all again at the Sharonville Convention Center this weekend starting at 5pm.

The newest cancellation to note is Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead). He unfortunately had to cancel due to work on a Ben Affleck film. The amazing HorrorHound Crew did however make a new addition to the roster, Regan MacNeil herself, Linda Blair.

If you purchased a photo op with George Wendt (Cheers, House), you are in for a big treat. George will be dressing up as his beloved character Norm from Cheers for photo ops.

Autograph prices have been some of the most asked questions. One guy, Cameron Dunlap, was kind enough to post a list of what he has paid at previous conventions for some of the autographs. Thank you Cameron!

The Sharonville Convention Center is a large building, and when you’re swept up in the glow of the convention awesomeness, it can be a little difficult to make a game plan or find your way around. Maps of the convention layout along with a coded guide to which guests will be in which rooms has been released.

The final update is kind of an ironic one. Old Spice, yes the deodorant company, will be on hand giving out samples.

With so many last minute changes being made, Nathan and the rest of the HorrorHound Crew are being swamped with emails and questions in the Facebook group and Facebook like page. To ensure that everyone sees the important updates and everyone gets their questions answered, be sure to check out FAQ section of HorrorHoundWeekend.com, it has been updated and many of the most asked questions can be answered there.

I can personally only provide so many updates. To keep up to date on the minute to minute changes, be sure to join the HorrorHound Weekend Group and like the HorrorHound Weekend Facebook page. More updates have been added to HorrorHoundWeekend.com as well.

Here’s to hoping Norman Reedus does not cancel for all those that have purchased photo op and VIPs to meet him, and wishing him a world of luck for cramming 3 days into 1, he is one amazing individual.

Hope to see you all there!

Convention Update: HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati March 20-22nd 2015

header

HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati begins this Friday, March 20th, and updates continue to pour in. Guest additions, guest cancellations and more have been announced, and I am here to give you the most important changes.

Let’s start with guest changes. I’m sure most of you are aware that Norman Reedus will now be appearing SATURDAY ONLY. Below is a quote from Nathan Hanneman (the guy awesome enough to put the convention on) about why this is.

“Due to being booked for a talk show in LA later this week, we are put in the position to move Norman Reedus’ flights around to try and get him to HorrorHound Weekend – and it appears there will be no way for him to make it to Cincinnati in time to sign on Friday evening – meaning, Norman will now be a Saturday-only appearance. We were just informed of this change and are working out the details, but wanted to post this news ASAP. More information ill be posted as soon as we have it, including updates from his management direct.” – Nathan Hanneman

Another change has been made that will affect how long you may have to wait to meet The Walking Dead superstar. Reedus’ line will not really be a line per-say, when the doors open, a “ticket line queue” will begin. Basically, you go to Norman’s table and pick up a ticket, said ticket will have a number on it, a bit like taking a number at a deli, this will keep everyone from having to stand in a huge line for just one autograph. For more information on this ticket line queue, visit the FAQ section of HorrorHoundWeekend.com

Unfortunately, guest cancellations are common due to schedule conflicts. There have only been 4 cancellations this year. Those cancellations include Alex Winter (The Lost Boys), Jason Patric (The Lost Boys), Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog) and Mitch Pileggi (Shocker). Now that the bummer news of cancellations is out of the way, there have been some pretty awesome additions, C. Thomas Howell (The Hitcher), Mark Boone Junior (Sons of Anarchy) and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead).

No autograph price list has been released, the HorrorHound Weekend Crew is just as unaware of autograph prices prior to the show as we are. The only ones for certain are AJ Bowen (You’re Next) and Pat Healy (Cheap Thrills), who will be signing for FREE.

extramoneyAutographs are typically the most expensive part of conventions, so if you need a little bit of extra money for those names and have some collectibles laying around collecting dust, visit Wayne and Rob at the “The Print-Pixs Booth”.

The biggest change aside from the ticket line queues for high demand guests for this year is the Coco Key Water Park Party. This year, the party is pre-sale only, and the tickets have already sold out according to the ticket site.

There are a lot of exciting films being screened this year including the world premiere of Old 37 starring Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley. Not only will the film be screening, but Kane Hodder himself will be in attendance, pretty awesome bonus. The film that was dubbed the scariest film of the past decade will be screening as well, The Babadock. For full film festival schedule, visit HorrorHoundWeekend.com/events.

On top of all of the fantastic guests, don’t forget about the Re-Animator reunion which will include Jeffrey Combs, Stuart Gordon, Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon and Dennis Paoli. For full guest list, be sure to check out HorrorHoundWeekend.com/guests

Convention Update: HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati 2015

header

Convention season is upon us, and one of the biggest horror cons is only a couple weeks away, HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati has had some new guest announcements, schedules are being made, ticket prices are changing and so on and so forth. So, who will be joining the ranks along with the already announced Re-Animator reunion?

Some of the new names that have been announced include Jason Mewes (Mallrats), Norman Reedus (Friday and Saturday ONLY)(The Walking Dead), Kane Hodder (Hatchet), Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary), Tom Atkins (Night of the Creeps), Madison Lintz (The Walking Dead), Jason Patric (The Lost Boys), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Alanna Masterson (The Walking Dead), Lawrence Gilliard (The Walking Dead), Terrance Zdunich (The Devil’s Carnival) and Jesse Hutch (Freddy vs. Jason). You can find the full guest list >>HERE<<.

Unfortunately, every convention is subject to having guests cancel due to work or scheduling conflicts. There have been only two cancellations as of now for this year’s Cincinnati show, Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog) and Alex Winter (The Lost Boys).

One of my personal favorite parts of conventions, especially HorrorHound, is the awesome list of films that will be screened. This years list includes some pretty promising looking films. I have only seen one of them, The Other Side, which I reviewed. You can read that review >>HERE<<. The one that I am most excited to see is Old 37 starring Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley. I’ve heard so many great things about the film, and it is finally getting a showing and will be released on DVD later in March. See the full list of films being screened along with a bit of information on them >>HERE<<.

Panels are another reason many go to conventions. HorrorHound has an impressive guest list, so of course the list of panels is going to be just as awesome. Some of them include an Old 37 panel, American Mary panel, Guardians of the Galaxy panel, Re-Animator panel and more to be scheduled. For the full list of panels and times, visit the events section.

What fun would a horror convention be without a great list of vendors to buy some cool sh!t from? HorrorHound always has one of the largest vendor lists around, and their vendor room is a horror nerd’s Wonderland. Some of the vendors on tap for this year include Dark Sky Films, Dead Ink, Living Dead Dolls, Samhain Horror, Scarebears, Super Pumpkins, Troma and so many more. For the full list, visit the vendor section of HorrorHoundWeekend.com.

As usual, the closer you wait to the date of the convention, the higher the ticket prices will be. There are still pre-sale tickets available. Single day passes are $20, Weekend passes are $40, VIP passes are $175 and weekend passes with early entry are SOLD OUT.  Pick up your tickets now at HorrorHoundWeekend.com to avoid higher prices, sell outs and longer lines at the door.

Planning on staying a couple of days of the entire weekend? Hotels near the Sharonville Convention Center are filling up fast. You may want to get your reservations made quickly to avoid longer travel times. Here is the full list of the closest hotels.

Be sure to join the HorrorHound Weekend group on Facebook for minute to minute updates.

The Other Side: The most unique zombie flick to hit the screen. (Movie Review)

other2With the popularity of The Walking Dead, zombie shows and films have been growing in popularity faster than zombies multiply. The only problem with that, they are all trying to be The Walking Dead and they are all very similar in content. The Other Side thankfully has changed this mundane pattern. Based off of a short film by the same name, this is the first feature length film from Orchard Place Productions.

Written and co-directed by Chris Niespodzianski, The Other Side stars Chad Conley (Mason), Danielle Lozeau (Werewolf Rising), Chuck Hendershot(It Came from Yesterday), Jack Davis (Bray Road), Robert Liscio (Confessional) and Christine Starkey. Most of the actors and extras in this film as well as the crew are from the Pittsburgh, PA area where the film was shot, and what better place to shoot a zombie flick than the zombie capital of the world? All of the music featured in the film is also from local Pittsburgh bands and artists, and it all sounds awesome.

I am over the zombie scenarios being set in the city. I am so happy to see that there is finally a new zombie film that takes place in the middle of nowhere. All locations featured in the film can be found around Pittsburgh and Claysville, Pennsylvania. The entire film took place in the woods and countryside.

The Other Side is a film that Romero would be proud of. The slow buildup is reminiscent of Night of the Living Dead. All of the events leading up to the real action were believable and exactly what I would expect to see happen right before the zombie apocalypse. The script was well written and the cast was phenomenal.

The film boldly boasts practical effects, and they are fantastic. The zombies are not at all over done, the makeup is basic, much like those in a Romero film. They also run as apposed to a lumbering walking pace. I love this concept, zombies have always been more terrifying to me when they look and move more like those that are still alive.

The audio and video quality is amazing. A lot of indie films tend to be grainy and the audio can be a bit scratchy, but not in this case.

What makes The Other Side so unique is the absolutely insane plot twist at the end. During the film, you will feel as though you are watching a normal zombie film. The whole film is fantastic, but the last five minutes will absolutely blow your mind. The Other Side is everything a zombie film should be and much more.

I highly recommend this film to any fan of zombie films that are over the Hollywood zombie scene and looking for something that will actually make you think. I would love to see a sequel.

You can purchase a copy of The Other Side at TeamOrchard.com. You Can also see the film if you are planning to attend this year’s HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati (for screening times, check with HorrorHoundWeekend.com). Be sure to like The Other Side Facebook Page for stills, announcements and just to show the cast and crew some love.

Synopsis:

It’s just another routine day in Elkwood, PA… or is it? People are missing, and lives will be changed forever once the haunting truth is revealed.

HorrorHound Weekend Returning To Cincinnati In March 2015

10409763_10204223008709026_7440578705409585299_nIt’s almost that time again, time for HorrorHound Weekend to invade Cincinnati. On the weekend of March 20-22, 2015, the biggest names in horror will join some of the most hardcore horror fans in the Sharonville Convention Center. There have already been several exciting guest announcements made and even more to come.

JeffreyCombsOn the subject of guests, one of the biggest announcements made is that of a Re-Animator reunion. Joining the guest lineup from the film include director Stuart Gordon, Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott and Barbara Crampton. Other guests include Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), George Wendt (House), Mitch Pileggi (Shocker), Richard Brooks (Shocker), AJ Bowen (You’re Next), Jeff Kober (Sons of Anarchy), Pat Healy (The Innkeepers), Brian Thompson (The X-Files), Naomi Grossman (American Horror Story) and Pedro Miguel Arce (Land of the Dead). More guests will be announced as the show approaches, and all guests are confirmed as of now, but may cancel.

The Ink Fusion Tattoo Festival will also be returning this year. Some of the world’s most talented tattoo artists will be tattooing. You can score some pretty amazing ink from names like Marc Draven, Chris Jones, Josh Wiley and many more. Pricing and schedules available at HorrorHoundWeekend.com.

Tattoo-MarcDravenPanel times are still yet to be announced, but on Saturday at noon, there will be the Horror Host Hall of Fame Ceremony. Other special events include the annual HorrorHound Film Festival and a cosplay contest.

HorrorHound Weekend always has the best list of vendors. Vendor spots always fill up quick, but there are still some spots available. If you are interested in setting up a booth this year, you better jump on it before they’re gone.JoshMcDermitt

One thing that fills up faster than the vendor spots are the hotels. There are several hotels within walking distance of the convention center, but you have to act fast on those. They are usually filled up or close to by the end of January. Don’t worry though, there are tons of hotels that are just a very short drive away.

MitchPileggiTickets are already on sale at HorrorHoundWeekend.com. Special low prices are only for a limited time, and the closer to the event we get, the less of a deal you will be able to get. Day passes, weekend passes and VIP passes are all currently available. Children 12 and under get in free.

Convention hours are as follows, Friday, March 20: 5pm-10pm, Saturday, March 21: 11am-7pm and Sunday, March 22: 11am-5pm.

Be sure to join the HorrorHound Weekend group on Facebook for more guest announcements and event changes. Hope to see you there!

‘Service’: A Short Film Premiering At HorrorHound Weekend’s Film Festival

HorrorHound Weekend would not be complete without a killer film festival, which lasts all weekend. I have gotten the great opportunity to see a very impressive short that will be premiering at the festival on Saturday at 11am, ‘Service’.

SERVICEPOSTER10.5‘Service’ was written and directed by Jerry Pyle and stars Deena Thompson and James Babson. Deena, known from ‘The Dancing World’ does not have an extensive line of acting credits, but she has been in many music videos for some big names including Sigur Ros (with Shia LeBeouf) and David Bowie (with Gary Oldman) (see her videos here, Sigur Ros David Bowie). Her costar, James has appeared in films such as ‘Hellboy’, ‘Ghost Team One’ and ‘Soloman Kane’.

Synopsis:

A young mom has to bring her daughter to her work and discovers the house she cleans for a living has been invaded by a dangerous man.

As I mentioned above, I have already had the great privilege of already seeing ‘Service’ (thank you Jerry!), and I have to say, it is a must see. It had every element of a feature length horror/thriller film, shock, fear and murder. Conceptually, this short is fantastic. The acting is incredible! I can’t recommend seeing ‘Service’ on Saturday enough to all of you.

For more information about the film, the stars and the writer, be sure to like the ‘Service’ Facebook Page and follow Jerry Pyle on twitter.

Showing along side ‘Service’ on Saturday is another short film titled ‘Call Girl’.

‘Call Girl’ was written by Eric Havens and the directorial debut of Jill Sixx Gevargizian. It stars the beautiful, talented 1545891_10152566847302729_1935087574_nTristan Risk (American Mary) and the delightfully creepy Laurence R. Harvey (Human Centipede 2).

Synopsis:

In one man’s attempt to exploit his date night via video-chat, he ends up sharing something far more disturbing. Some people like to watch, do you?

For more information on the film, be sure to like the ‘Call Girl’ Facebook page and follow ‘Call Girl’ on twitter.

HorrorHound Weekend Update

1504534_10202203760789090_82012554_n

We are now a day away from one of the best conventions I have ever attended, HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati. Beginning Friday, March 21st through Sunday March 23rd, you can join fellow horror fans and meet your favorite horror icons. I know I have plugged this convention previously, but there have been quite a few changes made.

There have been a few cancellations. Norman Reedus (filming), Kane Hodder (filming), Barbara Crampton (filming) and Alan Howarth (schedule conflicts). Don’t worry, the great people at HorrorHound have added a few great names to help soften the blow. Some of those great names include Clifton Collins Jr (The Stoned Age, Pacific Rim, The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day), Daniel Thomas May (The Walking Dead) and Jose Cantillo (Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead).

1911911_10202602266111474_1073377961_nIn addition to the awesome event t-shirt you can pick up at this year’s show, you can also pick up the “Sons of HorrorHound” t-shirt to help commemorate the appearance of Sons of Anarchy Star, Kim Coates. Not only will it be available as a t-shirt, but it will also be available as a women’s tank along with the “Horror’s Hallowed Grounds” design.

For those of you that are interested in a professional photo op, the schedule is now available at HorrorHoundWeekend.com. To help keep the line moving and to optimize time, Bruce Campbell will not be doing photos at his table, he will be photo op only. As far as I know, he is the only guest that will be doing this, and before you start thinking he’s a jerk, he’s not. With someone as popular with the fans as him, a VERY large line is anticipated, so to help accommodate all of his fans, this is necessary as he will only be appearing on Saturday and Sunday.

There are also floor layout maps available for the weekend on the HorrorHound Weekend Facebook page.

Other guests include Sean Patrick Flanery, David Della Rocco, Doug Bradley, Ellie Cornell, Ted Raimi (along with many other ‘The Evil Dead’ and ‘Evil Dead 2’ cast members), Clint Howard, Michael Rooker, Scott Wilson, Chandler Riggs, Laurie Holden and many more. Full list of guest here.

Many of the pre-sale tickets have sold out, but feel free to check out the select pre-sale that are still available here. There WILL be tickets available at the door. Just a reminder for those of you that purchased pre-order discount tickets, DO NOT share your ticket’s QR code with anyone, and do not post pictures of it. There are problems with this every year. That code can only be scanned once, and if someone else uses your code before you, you have just paid for their admission.
